On a busy Saturday on Mesa, the Cate Track and Field team took the few athletes who were not doubling as actors, musicians, or tech/stage crew to Lompoc HS for the Santa Barbara County Championships.
Freshman Sophie Blank ran a beautiful race in the Girls Frosh/Soph 1600m to win in a gigantic PR time of 5:26.7. Her previous best was 5:54! Hours later, she returned to the track to win the 800m in a PR time of 2:30.4. A double gold medalist at her first championship meet!
Junior Francesca Sutch won two silver medals, the first in the Girls Varsity 1600m and the second in the 800m. In the 800, Fran lowered her PR to 2:27.0.
In the Frosh/Soph boys mile, Sophomore Jordan Ryan improved his time by three seconds for a PR, and Freshman Jackson Muller lowered his PR by nine seconds! Sophomore Samuel Young improved his 800m time by two seconds to take the bronze medal in the Frosh/Soph boys 800m.
Senior Everest Schipper used another strong kick in the Varsity Boys 1600m race to take first in a new PR of 4:24.9. Sebastian Sutch finished in third place in the 1600m, his first race of the season, running 4:27.8. Later, Seb went on to win the 800m race and Everest the 3200m.
The coaches want to thank all the parents who made their way to Lompoc to support the team. We also are looking forward to having the entire team back in action on Friday for the TCAA Championship at Carpinteria High School at 3pm.
