On October 16th, the Cate boys water polo team hosted Villanova High School for our second league meeting of the season. The match’s final score was a 14-7 win for the Rams.
Our top performer on the day was Baye Breene ’25 who finished with six goals. Putting away shots from the interior, perimeter, and in transition, Breene was a force defensively and could not be contained on the offensive end of the pool.
Other goal scorers for the Rams were Fletcher Prince ’28 (3), Jae Wykoff ’26 (3), Christian Busse ’25 (1), and Lucian Tann ’26 (1).
Defensive standouts were Ashwin Patel ’26 and Eric Jin ’26 They were relentless on-ball defenders and active help defenders. They racked up steals, shot blocks, and helped fuel our offensive counterattack.
Lucian Tann and Christian Busse did all the little things for us to succeed today. Their activity on both ends of the pool doesn’t always show up in the stat book but they have been making consistent contributions for us.
Looking ahead, we have one more regular season league match the home finale against Foothill Tech. With a win, the Rams will clinch a spot in the CIF-SS Playoffs for the third straight season.
