On October 8th, our Cate boys water polo team traveled to Malibu High School for our second league meeting of the season. The final score was a 10-9 loss to the Sharks of Malibu.

Our top scorers were Baye Breene and Sebastian Brine. Baye scored three and Sebastian finished with two. These two have been our leading scorers all season, Baye from the interior and Sebastian from the perimeter. We relied on them heavily and they produced for us yet again. The duo played the entire match and made clutch shots late in the game to keep our hopes of winning alive.

Other scorers for us were Jae Wykoff ’26 (2), Elliott Paige ’26 (1), and Fletcher Prince ’28 (1). Jae was able to get the scoring started for us early in the game while Elliott and Fletcher hit big-time shots in the second half when we needed it most.

The defensive standouts were Jae Wykoff and Emannuel Brine ’28. Jae was able to shut down the interior defense yet again and Emannuel proved to be a terrific on-ball and help defender.

The game’s story was our grit and resilience in the second half. We found ourselves down by four goals at the start of the third quarter and our team fought their way back to tie the game up at eight a piece. A few defensive mishaps and one too many turnovers hurt us in the end. Nonetheless, our guys battled for four straight quarters and had nothing left to give by the end of the game. I couldn’t be prouder of their mentality and will to win the game, we came up just short.

Looking ahead, we will play Calabasas High School next week at home. Playoffs are just around the corner and this group is ready to do big things in the postseason. Go Rams!
