BVWP Cate at Foothill Tech
Yesterday, October 1st, our Cate boys varsity water polo team traveled to the Ventura Aquatic Center for a league match against Foothill Tech High School. The final score of the contest was a 13-10 win for the Rams, improving our league record to 2-1 and overall record to 4-2.
The man of the match was 9th grader Flethcer Prince. He was a dominant force all day and could not be stopped in the interior of Foothill’s defense. He would finish the match with an astounding five goals, three drawn exclusions, and a penalty. Fletcher scored inside, outside, and on man-up situations throughout the game. It was amazing to watch Foothill double-team him in the second half and he still managed to produce goals out of center. It was a breakout performance for the rising Cate star.
Sebastian Brine ’26 had another standout game. He would finish the match with four goals, growing his large season total. Seb scored a penalty and three other beautiful outside shots. His perimeter shooting has improved a ton over the past year because of the work he has put in outside of our team practices. Seb is becoming an increasingly fun player to watch with his quickness and scoring abilities.
Elliott Paige ’26 stepped up big for us on the defensive end of the pool. We got into foul trouble early, forcing Elliott into a new defensive role. He was able to adapt and limit Foothill’s top-scoring option for three-quarters of the game. Elliott is always willing to help our team in any way he can which is why he is so important to our team’s success.
Other goal scorers for us were Elliott Paige (2), Christian Busse ’25 (1), and Jae Wykoff ’26 (1).
We went down two goals in the first period and our guys clawed their way back into the game. I was proud of the grit and togetherness our guys showed on the road when their backs were against the wall. This was a must-win for us to keep our league title hopes alive and our guys stepped up when they needed to. I am very proud of this team effort.
Looking ahead, we play Carpinteria High School today at 4 pm at home. Go Rams!
