Rams Battle Hard but Fall Short Against Carpinteria

October 3, 2024

Fletcher Prince shines again with five goals, but Cate comes up just short in a 12-9 defeat.

Elliott Paige ’26 shoots and scores!

Yesterday October 2nd, our Cate boys water polo team hosted Carpenteria High School for a non-league match. The game’s final score was a 12-9 defeat to the Warriors of Carp.
9th grader Fletcher Prince has been on an absolute tear recording his second consecutive five-goal performance. Fletcher’s game out of two meters has blossomed and he is seeing great results with his back to the net. His ability to turn defenders and finish from unique arm angles has been exciting. We hope to see continued dominance from Fletcher in our tournament this weekend.
Sebastian Brine would add two goals to our total. He scored on a man-up situation and one from the outside. Christian Busse and Elliott Paige had a goal apiece as well. Busse attacked the interior of Carp with his size and movement while Elliott’s pinpoint shooting allowed him to capitalize from the perimeter. TJ Weir, Eric Jin, and Tristan Maigret brought outstanding energy and offensive playmaking during their time in the water.
Jae Wykoff and Quinn Vanasco made massive contributions for us defensively. They were tasked with matching up against some really high-level players and they tallied numerous stops a piece throughout the match.
Despite the loss, I was happy to see the level of play our guys brought. Our entire roster made positive contributions and we put ourselves in a position to win in the second half. A few lapses defensively and some missed shots hurt us, but our feel for the game and overall control was really nice to see.
Looking ahead, we play in the Buena Ventura High School tournament this weekend. On Friday
we play Santa Barbara High School and Thousand Oaks High School. Go Rams!
