Ram Comeback Falls Short Against The Dons

The Cate Rams Ultimate Frisbee team showed grit and determination, especially in the second half, but ultimately came up short, losing by a score of 15-9 to the visiting Santa Barbara Youth Ultimate team. S.B.Y.U. is a talented, disciplined, speedy, and experienced team, and they started the game with excellent cuts, throws, and defense, picking apart the Rams and jumping out to an 8-1 lead going into halftime. The second half was a different story, as we were able to dig deep and find some better defense, while also connecting on some deeper passes that kept S.B.Y.U. honest when we were on offense. We outscored them 8-7 in the second half, a feat to be proud of, and a testament to the improvementĀ of this group over the course of the season.

In terms of individual achievements, Cate was led by its three senior captains, Nyle Ahmad ’25 (1 Goal, 2 Assists), Josh Ludviksen ’25(2 Goals, 2 Assists), and Harry Su ’25. Harry was injured, so he couldn’t play, but his leadership on the sideline and his feedback to the team at halftime were still crucial. Also playing valuable minutes and showing up on the scoresheet were Chris Soto ’25 (1 Goal) andĀ  Karry Tan ’27 (1 Goal). The Rams also saw strong defensive plays from Colby Roof ’25 and Luke Ashiku ’26. Despite excellent performances by those veteran and upperclassmen players, the stars of the show were undoubtedly a tandem of newcomers Kendrick Suen ’28 (1 Goal, 4 Assists) and Joel Oke ’28 (3 Goals, 1 Assist). Kendrick was a threat on disc and off, displaying excellent give and goes and sharp deep throws. Joel was a deep threat all game, and his ability to create separation in the end zone and get open was a huge part of our comeback.

Head Coach Ben Swain added, “This was a good showing for us, despite the final score. We have another crack at this S.B.Y.U. team Wednesday, 10/23, at home on the lower field. We hope for your support.”
