The Cate Boys Varsity Soccer Team started their Tri-Valley league title defense by traveling up to Bishop Diego to face the Cardinals in the Tri-Valley League opener (4-0, 1-0). Today’s starting 11 consisted of Seniors Lucas Huiner, Nic Forry, Eli Meisel, and junior Kamil Abdul Nafeo in the backline, Seniors Uriel Beltran-Campuzano, Nico Huiner and junior Dimash Anuarbek controlled the midfield, while our attack was once again lead by Senior Max Devore, Kiy Barry & George Marin. Freshman Alejandro Sandoval got the starting nod between the sticks.
The Rams offense once again got off to a strong & early start. Kamil gave the Rams an early lead in the 2nd minute when he drilled a bullet into the back of the net off a free kick. George added what’s becoming a calling card, a hat trick by scoring in the 9th, 15th, & 21st minute. This is George’s fourth straight game with a hat trick, an amazing feat at any level of soccer. Fortunately for us, we do not solely rely on him to provide our scoring. Kiy matched George with a hat trick of his own today with goals in the 38th, 55th, and 63rd minute and Junior Oliver Charvel opened his varsity scoring account with his 1st goal of the season in the 67th minute.
Our offense has been firing on all cylinders but we cannot forget the hard work, effort and endless grind our midfield and defensive players put in to make this happen. The score at the half was 5-1 and as stated above, 8-2 in our favor at full time. Freshmen Alejandro Sandoval & Junior Braedo Parker combined for the win at goal.
We have a full slate of games in the next week & a half and we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to give every member of our squad quality minutes. These minutes will be important as the season progresses and our depth is tested. We are close to having our full squad back so we are looking forward to that. We will host our rivals from Ventura, Foothill Tech on Thursday @ 3 pm in what is sure to be our first true test.
