The Cate girls lacrosse team earned a thrilling 14–13 win over Dos Pueblos in a hard-fought, high-energy battle marked by resilience and grit.
Cate opened strong, winning the first two draws and jumping out to an early 2–0 lead. Dos Pueblos responded quickly, evening the score to 4–4 by the end of the first quarter. Struggles with ground balls and tight defense in the second quarter gave DP the momentum, and Cate trailed 6–7 at halftime.
After regrouping at the break, Cate came out sharper and more composed in the second half. Despite trailing 10–12 heading into the fourth quarter, the team stepped up on both ends of the field, dominating the draw and the midfield. Cate outscored DP 4–1 in the final quarter, with two goals from Sophia Ospina and one apiece from Lilli Whelan and Maia Holmes. Lorelei and Val anchored a strong defensive effort to help secure the win.
It was an exciting and intense matchup, and the team showed tremendous heart and teamwork throughout. Thank you to all the parents who came out to support. Cate now begins a home stretch with seven games ahead, including a rematch with Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.
