Cate 9-4 (2-3) with a sigh of relief after a stellar second half to beat Santa Clara 51-48 after seeing them three days ago on Friday. Big shoutout and credit to Tyler Martinez, ’24, who was diving on the floor for loose balls, playing physically, and getting big rebounds, finishing with 14. Today, Tyler allowed us to get out in transition with excellent outlet passes after big defensive boards. He loves to compete.
I want to credit Braylin Glomah ’27 and Yael Mendez ’26 for giving us the much-needed energy to make our run in the 3rd quarter. This was our first good 3rd quarter all season, and they both stepped up defensively.
Jacob Gabbay ’25 ran the point well today; especially proud of his defense and hitting big 3s to start the 3rd and 4th quarters. He led our 3rd quarter 9-0 run and gave us the confidence to close this game.
Marcus Scudder ’25 is so crafty and skilled and led Cate with 19. He is so fast and has such quick hands that he makes every opponent hesitate when trying to drive by him or make a cross-court pass near him. He is the guy every opponent wants to slow down, and he understands that and is starting to learn how to thrive in that role.
We feel good about today; we bounced back after a tough loss and knuckled down, knowing we must battle every night in the Tri-Valley League.
Wednesday is a big cross-town match-up with Bishop Diego at 6:30pm at Cate School.
