In a thrilling display of tennis prowess, the Cate Rams triumphed in their inaugural league game against the Seraphs at their home court, securing a solid 14-4 victory. The match unfolded under unique circumstances as St. Bonaventure took the court with only six players, automatically forfeiting six points due to an incomplete lineup.
Despite the Seraphs’ numerical disadvantage, their top two singles players showcased formidable strength and experience. Cate’s Ethan Bloom ’24 emerged as the standout player of the day, exhibiting exceptional skill and determination as he clinched victories in closely contested sets against the Seraphs’ two strongest competitors.
In singles action, Kakeru Hirofuji ’27 and Harry Su ’25 battled fiercely but were unable to overcome the resilient St. Bonaventure players. Harry, in particular, fought valiantly in the last match of the day, narrowly succumbing to the Seraphs’ top player in a tiebreaker.
The doubles category proved to be Cate’s stronghold, with all three pairs securing undefeated records. The dynamic duos of Kaden Greene ’27/Alex Gallegos ’26, James He ’27/Nicholas Koh ’25, and Nathan Koh ’27/Noah Bien ’27 showcased exceptional teamwork, dominating their sets and contributing significantly to the overall triumph.
Looking ahead, Cate Boys Tennis is gearing up for another exciting matchup against Dunn School scheduled for Tuesday, February 27.
