Cate Football Dominates in Season-Opening 40-21 Victory

Rams overwhelm Valley Christian Academy with a first-half scoring blitz and strong defensive performance.

The Cate football team opened up its campaign with a resounding 40-21 win over defending CIF Finalists Valley Christian Academy on Saturday, August 31.

The Rams did all of their scoring in the first half. Quarterback Quinn Pullen ‘25 rushed for two touchdowns and threw another one to Ethan Rehnborg ‘25. Joba Samson ‘25 was a force on the ground, talking three rushing touchdowns of his own. The second half saw the younger Rams gain some really valuable playing experience.

The Cate defense stifled the Lions all game long. The Rams forced 5 turnovers on the day. Davey Rissel ‘25 and Barron Crayton ‘26 each pounced on two fumbles, while Nico Huiner ‘25 also recovered one. The defense backs got in on the action with interceptions from Johnny Foster ‘25 and Oliver Charvel ‘26. Riley Valente’25 and Henry Bouma ‘25 were dominant all game for the Cate.

The coaches were very pleased with this first game effort. It was far from perfect and there were plenty of mistakes to clean up, but the Rams did plenty of good things. Everyone got really valuable experience that will no doubt help down the road.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday, September 14 on the road at Laguna Blanca in Santa Barbara.
