On Friday, September 13th, our Cate boys varsity water polo team hosted a non league match against Oxnard High School. The final score of the game was a 12-3 victory for Cate.
Sebastian Brine was one of two Cate Rams who finished with three goals. Brine was effective in transition all day, using his speed and anticipation to earn easy counter attack opportunities for himself. He also put away several beautiful shots from the perimeter. A stellar all around showing for him.
Baye Breene ’25 also had a terrific match. He scored a hat trick of goals and was a force on the interior all day. He drew multiple penalties and exclusions, forcing Oxnard into a deep zone defense all game. This was a breakout performance for the Senior captain.
Other scorers for the Rams were Jae Wykoff ’26 (2), Elliott Paige ’26 (1), Tristan Maigret ’26 (1), and Fletcher Prince ’28 (1).
Our goalie play by Andrew Sheshunoff ’27 was outstanding. This was Sheshunoff’s best performance of the season thus far. He finished the match with eight saves, four steals, two penalty stops, and three assists. He filled up the stat sheet and was a key piece to our team’s success.
This was a complete team win today. I was proud of the energy and offensive/defensive execution our guys showed today. Looking ahead, we have our first league match next week against defending league champions, Malibu High School. Go Rams!
