Rams Even the All-Time Series with the Toads at 10 Wins Apiece.

The Cate varsity football team capped off the 20th regular season meeting in resounding fashion with a 63-14 victory over rival Thacher. The Rams finished the year 8-0 earning the 2024 Tri-Valley League Football title.

This one belonged to Cate from the opening kick, as the Rams jumped out to a 35-0 lead in the first quarter. Quinn Pullen ’25 connected with Jacob Gabbay ’25 on the first two scores (16 yards and 6 yards). Cody Mast ’25 followed up with a 5-yard touchdown run after a Thacher fumble that was recovered by Henry Bouma ’25. Josh Butler ’26 had his first of two interception returns for a touchdown after the Mast ’25 score, and Pullen ’25 capped the first-quarter frenzy with a 3-yard touchdown run of his own. Ethan Rehnborg ’25 got in on the scoring action with a 15-yard touchdown catch. At the break, Cate led 41-8.

Pullen ’25 connected with Rehnborg ’25 on a 40-yard deep ball to open up the third quarter scoring. Oliver Charvel ’26 picked up his first varsity touchdown with a 10-yard run. Butler ’26 punctuated the victory with another pick-6 to end the 3rd quarter.

The Cate defense was great for most of the ballgame. Riley Valente ’25 and Barron Crayton ’26 provided plenty of pressure on the Thacher quarterback and Mack Nieman ’25, Davey Rissel ’25, Bouma ’25, and Zach Coulter ’25 didn’t give the Toads much room to run. The Rams forced 4 Thacher turnovers on the day.

“It’s a great feeling to be league champions and end the regular season undefeated,” said head coach Ben Soto. “We now set our goal to be the best we can be as we enter the playoffs,” Soto added.

A special thank you to the folks up supported the team this season! Thanks to our parents/families for all you have done and to our amazing announcer and chain crew!

The team opens CIF postseason play at home on Saturday, November 9th, at 1 PM vs. Chadwick. The Rams defeated the Dolphins earlier in the season 33-30 in a double overtime thriller.
