Baye Breene Leads the Rams with 8 goals in a Resounding Win over Santa Ana

Cate hosted #1 Seed Santa Ana High School for the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 Semifinal. After bowing out in the quarterfinal round last year against Ayala High School, the Rams bested their 2023 effort appearing in the program’s  first ever semifinal match.

The pool deck was rocking from the opening drop of the ball which fueled a spirited Cate effort. The team was able to jump out to a quick 3-1 lead after the first quarter and an 8-1 margin by the half. Never ceding control, the Rams dictated the pace of the match throughout en route to a 16-6 win. The victory continues the Rams miracle run, which will culminate in the program’s first-ever championship appearance , in the highest divisional placement ever for the team (Division 4)

The leading scorer on the day was Senior Captain Baye Breene ’25 who finished the day with eight goals. He played like a man amongst boys scoring any way he wanted to. His counter attack and post up ability was on full display during his best game of the postseason. Other scorers for the rams were were Sebastian Brine ’26 (4), Fletcher Prince ’28 (3), Elliott Paige ’26 (1), and Emanuel Brine ’28 (1). Defensive standouts  Jae Wykoff ’27 and Paige both finished with three steals a piece. They were lights out all game in help situations and 1v1 defensive positions. Goalie Andrew Sheshunoff ’27 had an outstanding game from the cage. He finished with eleven blocks and three assists.

Coach Morrison’s Thoughts
“This was the best water polo I have seen our team play all season. From start to finish, we looked like a complete, polished team. The chemistry and IQ were on full display in this one. I am incredibly proud of the passion and love for one another that our guys showed. Up next, the CIF championship. We play this Saturday at Mt. San Antonio college for the title. We will be prepared, focused, and fired up for a match up with South Pasadena High School. Be on the lookout for game details, but let’s plan on packing the pool. Go Rams!”
