Art Relay is an immersive creative experience meant to provide students with a chance to live like artists for a day. Each year, more than 50 Juniors and Seniors are invited to participate in Art Relay. Every morning starting at 8:00, several students are excused from all school commitments for 24 hours to create a work of art. At 8:00 a.m. the following day, students pass their artwork to the next artists in line. Those students create work in response to whatever they were handed, and so on.
Throughout Art Relay, students explore, experiment, and play. They develop paintings, photographs, and sculptures; they choreograph dances, write songs, and recite monologues. The experience is equal parts challenging, joyful, and surprising. For many students, this is a special opportunity they look forward to and remember for years!
