Oscar Urízar, a native of Peru, holds a BA in Accounting and Computer Science from Universidad Católica SM and MAs in Management and Strategic Marketing from Universidad del Pacífico SDM, as well as Spanish Literature and Linguistics from UC Santa Barbara.
With over 25 years as an educator and leader, he champions diversity, equity, and collaboration, serving students, faculty, and staff with dedication.
Oscar’s scholarly focus lies in Literature and Philosophy, emphasizing the Spanish Golden Century and the Latin American short story. His work explores the rich narratives, themes, and voices of these periods, delving into the philosophical and literary traditions that shaped them. A recipient of the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award, he has developed Spanish curricula across all levels and served on various committees.
In his free time, Oscar enjoys classical figure drawing, sculpture, woodworking, gardening, and writing short stories, some of which have been published.
