Dr. Susan Zapalac joined the Cate community as the new Medical Director in December of 2020. She has served as an Attending Physician in the ER at Cottage Hospital since 2002, and most recently consulted at Santa Barbara Middle School as a member of the COVID Response Team. Dr. Zapalac received her bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles and earned her doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the Western University of Health Science. She completed her residency at the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center. In addition to her medical responsibilities, Dr. Zapalac volunteers for both the Santa Barbara Girls Lacrosse Association and Doctors Without Walls – Santa Barbara Street Medicine. She is happily married and the mother of three children, ages 17, 15 and 12. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, backpacking, hiking, snow skiing, and yoga.
