The Health Center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Health Center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Anytime the Health Center is not open, there is a registered nurse on call available for anything you may need.
Cate students may be seen by a clinic or private physician, and the School will provide transportation into Carpinteria or Santa Barbara for urgent medical and dental appointments. A small fee ($30 round trip) will be billed to the student’s account. If a parent needs the name of a local medical care provider, please contact the Health and Wellness Center for referrals. It is best, however, if the Health staff schedule appointments for boarding students. This allows the nurses to help students learn to manage both their time and their health. Additionally, this allows the nurse to coordinate the needs of all students requiring transportation to and from medical and dental appointments.
We allow all kinds of students to rest in the Health Center! Mental health breaks, cold and flu symptoms, and more walk through our door every day. The only time we don’t allow students to rest in the Health Center is if a student stays up too late for personal reasons and/or poor time management. It’s important to note that our Student Resting Room is an electronics-free zone to optimize your rest and get you feeling better again!
The Mesa Clinic is our isolation unit that we have on campus that is separate from the Health and Wellness House. Some reasons we have students stay at the Mesa Clinic are when students have a fever of 100.4º or greater, a gastrointestinal illness, or may have a potentially highly infectious illness that could easily spread to other students.
Please upload your new insurance information into your student’s Vital Health Record, and under the Magnus requirement “Proof of Insurance.” It is very important for our health team to have an active insurance policy on file for each student in case of emergency.
While students may have the HC cell phone number, it is important that students do not call the HC cell phone directly after HC hours. The reason for this is… safety! If the HC is closed, there may not be a nurse physically on campus, and it is important that another adult is aware that you are in need of medical attention. You are welcome to notify a dorm parent, a trusted adult, or the MOD in these situations. Whomever you notify will then notify the nurse on call if needed! Sometimes, we are on campus after hours, but it is never guaranteed.
